Book Synopsis
"A queer retelling of “The Firebird,” a Russian folktale
When twin heirs are born in Tourin, their fates are decided at a young age. While Izaveta remained at court to learn the skills she’d need as the future queen, Asya was taken away to train with her aunt, the mysterious Firebird, who ensured magic remained balanced in the realm.
But before Asya’s training is completed, the ancient power blooms inside her, which can mean only one thing: the queen is dead, and a new ruler must be crowned.
As the princesses come to understand everything their roles entail, they’ll discover who they can trust, who they can love—and who killed their mother."
My Thoughts
Welcome to my stop on the book tour of Follow Your Arrow with TBR And Beyond Tours! The full tour schedule for These Feathered Flames can be found here.
This book started off fast and throws you right into this world where twins girls born to the crown and one becomes the Firebird, an ancient creature meant to maintain the balance of magic and the other becomes the queen to rule the land. This book is told through the POVs of the two sisters, Asya and Izaveta, who have long since been separated but brought back together after the death of their mother.
This book was such an interesting mix of fantastical elements and political conspiracy. I felt like I was guessing right until the end as to what was going to happen and who was responsible for the mysterious goings-on. This was a really great story of two sisters and how they find each other again after being separated and living in two totally different worlds for so long. And while there is a little bit of romance in this one, the central relationship in this one is really between the two sisters, which I thought was really nice to see the importance of that being emphasized.
I would definitely recommend this one and I am eagerly awaiting the next book to find out where this story goes next!
I received an eARC from TBR And Beyond Tours and the author as part of my participation in their tour.
